Serving Kids, teens, young adults and college students throughout Minnesota.
We are deeply committed to removing barriers to mental healthcare. We firmly believe that mental health is a fundamental human right, and our mission is clear: everyone, including you, should have access to services when needed. Your mental health matters to us.
As part of our commitment to our community, we offer a limited number of free therapy sessions on Thursday afternoons on a drop-in basis. These sessions are designed for young adults and/or college students who are underinsured, uninsured, or who cannot bill their insurance plan for any reason (high deductible plan, high co-pay, lack of mental health insurance benefits, social stigma, etc.), ensuring no one is left without the mental health support they need.
Please note that services are provided on a first-come, first-served basis, so there may be a short wait. We cannot guarantee that everyone will be seen. Sessions typically last between 30 to 60 minutes.
Free Drop-In Therapy Services are offered every Thursday from 3:00-6:00 pm.

Yes, our drop-in sessions are completely free. You will not see a bill and we will not bill your insurance. Donations are accepted and appreciated if that is possible for you.
Please note: Services are first come, first served, so there may be a short wait. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to see everyone. If you want to ensure you receive an appointment, we encourage you to contact our Intake and Scheduling Department about our Low-Cost Therapy Sessions that can be scheduled and reserved for $20.00 per session.
The Healing Project of MN LLC specializes in providing services to teens (16-17), young adults (18-30), and college students of all ages. Our free drop-in program is available exclusively for these age groups and does not serve children under 16.
However, we do offer therapy services for children and adolescents (ages 9+) who have experienced trauma. Our therapists are certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) or the certification process, ensuring specialized support for trauma recovery.
Minnesota has state laws that allow minors to consent to certain types of services without parent or guardian permission (Minnesota Statutes Sections 144.341 - 144.3441). Minnesota Statute Sec. 144.3431 allows youth 16 years of age or older to consent for outpatient mental health services. Our services are considered outpatient; we do not provide inpatient mental health services. Please note that although our services are free, know that you have financial responsibility if you seek support elsewhere and/or through our Low-Cost Therapy Program or Teen Mental Health Program. A minor who consents to health care services is financially responsible for the cost of the services (Minn. Stat. § 144.347).
It depends on the reason for your visit and how busy we are that day. Sessions are typically 30-60 minutes. Our sessions end promptly at 6:00 pm so plan accordingly.
Once you have met with one of our therapists during our drop-in hours, you might want to ensure you have weekly, biweekly, or monthly therapy sessions reserved for "you" time. Self-care is important, and ongoing therapy is an option! You can connect with one of the therapists during the drop-in sessions to discuss ongoing therapy sessions OR call our Intake and Scheduling Team at 612-778-2754.
If you decide that our therapists are not a good fit for you, or you need a therapist who specializes in a specific topic or diagnosis, that is okay! We will help get you connected to a therapist in the community that you live in.
